About

Based and operating from The Hague, The Netherlands.
Densley Annastatia (1997) is a visual artist who primarily works with photography to explore themes of ‘in-between space,’ cultural identity, impermanence, and the ordinary.
He is constantly observing the world around him. Through this ongoing, intuitive form of visual research, he is able to construct narratives by reflecting on his own work. During this intuitive observation, he is usually drawn to subject matters that feel empty, in transition, being held together, or that contain certain colors, tones, or shapes which evoke a feeling within himself. His work is a visual reflection influenced by his surroundings, experiences, and mixed cultural background.
Growing up in the Netherlands with this background, Annastatia has often felt caught ‘in-between.’ He uses landscapes, portraits, and interiors to capture the intimate feeling of not belonging.
With his work, Annastatia aims to evoke a certain feeling within the viewer for example, nostalgia, reflection, or recognition. He is always interested in the dialogue about what his work means to others, as this allows him to discover new meanings in his own work.
